What a horrible year for movies this has been. I've looked
over lists compiled by other critics and they all seem to agree
it was an amazing year for cinema and all exclaim how extraordinarily
tough it was to make their list. A lot of them also cheat by
giving ties. I saw one list that actually had 15 movies in
the top ten. Do your job and pick the best ten. I didn't agree
with my colleagues (a term I have to use loosely, since the
lists I saw came from people who get paid and don't know I
exist) on a lot of things, as you'll see below.
After going through everything I saw this year, it's no wonder
the box office slumped so badly. I know it can't be attributed
solely to one factor, but if I only give out a four star rating
three times in a calendar year's worth of movies (and one of
those is probably questionable) and only seven three and a
half scores, then the product simply isn't good enough. Compare
it to last year when I had loads of three and a half ratings
left off my top ten. That was a tough list to compile. This
year it was easy. All the four and three and a half rated movies
got in to the top; all of the one star and lower make up the
bottom ten. I can only hope that 2006 brings us something better.
So, without further ado, I bring you disappointment. Ranked.
And there you have it. Don't agree? Want to yell at me? Maybe
you want to make me feel good for acknowledging your unrespected
favorites. Either way...
