THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN, FAMILY GUY PRESENTS -- STEWIE GRIFFIN: THE UNTOLD STORY! and THE THIEF OF BAGDAD (1924)
Another week, another 3 reviews. The Family Guy movie I review hasn't been released yet in stores, but expect the direct to dvd title to hit shelves on the 28th. Read below to find out if it's worth picking up. The only new movie I saw this weekend was 2046, the sequel to In the Mood For Love. Expect my reviews for both those films later on. Until then, enjoy these. See you next time.
The 40 Year Old Virgin
Review by Jon Waterman
****
Andy is your typically antisocial, comic book and action figure collecting, tech-job geek. Thus, he hasn’t ever had sex. It’s not that he hasn’t tried. He did back then. But he’s just basically given up by now. Once his co-workers catch wind of his supposed plight, they set out on a mission to get Andy laid. Along the road, Andy meets a shop owner named Trish that he really likes and wants to start a relationship, but he doesn’t want to blow it by being a virgin and disappointing her. This could get messy…it’s been pent up for a while.
Not too long ago, I wrote my review for “Wedding Crashers.” In it, I said, “This is the film I wanted ‘Meet the Parents’ to be” and that it will be “probably going to end up being the funniest comedy of the year.” Well…this is the movie I wanted “Wedding Crashers” to be.

Family Guy Presents – Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story!
Review by Jon Waterman
**
Stewie is the talking baby of the Griffin family. He’s also the resident megalomaniacal genius living amongst buffoons and nitwits…and a talking dog named Brian. Stewie’s main mission in life is to kill Lois, his mother. After that, he’ll go conquer the world, and maybe go to elementary school if there’s time. His plans get put on the back burner, however, when he sees a man on television that looks just like him. Convinced that he just found his biological father, he sets out to find this man with an equally bald, football shaped head. But is he really prepared for what he might find out?
I want to say right off the bat that although it took some time, I am a fan of “Family Guy.” I learned to appreciate it before it went off the air originally, but it took repeat viewings. I think the same could easily be said about this movie. Even those loyal to the show may have a hard time really getting into the nearly ninety minutes of random pop-culture references and out of place flashback sequences.

The Thief of Bagdad (1924)
Review by Jon Waterman
****
Bagdad has a relatively uncommon thief in their midst. He knows all the tricks of the trade as well as some that he invents on the fly. He makes a living by taking from other people, but it’s still not enough for the adventurous side of him. So, he decides to infiltrate the King’s palace and go looting. Once inside, his eye catches the beauty of the princess and he forgets all about his purpose. Now, his sole reason for being is to steal her heart. After all, his motto is “What I want, I take.” In order to do that, he must con her into thinking he is a prince and then win a contest that brings her back the rarest treasure in the world.
Action star Douglas Fairbanks (“The Mark of Zorro,” “The Three Musketeers,” “Robin Hood”) stars in this incredible tale of fantasy, love and adventure. There are others in the cast, but Fairbanks completely steals the show and the spotlight from them all. His stunts and acrobatics bring to mind a live action cartoon. Far from campy, his exaggerated movements are purposefully funny.
