    The Rating My Heart Skipped

Check out this article about the problems with the rating system. I take every opportunity I can to discredit the brainchild of my man, Jack Valenti, who used to believe that Home Video would destroy the movies, and now believes that the internet will destroy movies. He recently stepped down from his role at the MPAA, but his legacy lives on in the ratings system.

Little known fact: Rootin'-tootin' Jack Valenti was the inspiration for the cartoon character of Yosemite Sam. I'm not kidding.

I'll tell you what. The MPAA system is flawed, but the article you link to doesn't really even begin to touch on all the problems it has. Roger Ebert and Matt Stone have both written intelligent, insighful articles that provide clear, logical and very easily implementable solutions.

Despite Valenti's creation of the system and his odd lack of being able to see the larger picture, I still like the guy. The turning point was probably when he made fun of himself on the 90s cartoon "Freakazoid." Besides that, he's a great, eloquent public speaker and incredibly wise. I think other organizations (as well as our government) have missed the boat by a much larger margin than the MPAA and Jack Valenti.

Wise? If it were up to his wise vision, we would not have home video right now. His wise vision would keep us from ever watching films on the internet. I've been in a room with him and listened to him speak. He rehashes the same bullshit arguements, and hasn't learned a thing from Home Video. He's visionless.

He is visionless. But that doesn't make him unwise. I just think he's a great speaker who uses good analogies to support his arguments. You can disagree with someone and still admire them. I think very few people realize or remember that these days.
